Wisdom we all need!

, ,

Wisdom is so essential for us all but do we use it when it is offered to us or access it when we need to make a choice?

Before embarking on writing ‘Diamond Books’ which I believe to be a calling on my life, God gave me a picture of some foundation stones. One of them was called ‘wisdom’. This is something that I can’t do without. King Solomon was said to have a lot of this and was congratulated by God at choosing what he thought was most important (when God asked him what he would like) that God happened to agree with – see 2 Chronicles 1.

In the book of Proverbs, there is a lot said about wisdom. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7) and some very wise people have read the 31 chapters of the book of Proverbs on a daily basis, one chapter each day of the month. Billy Graham has been said to do this and it provides a good basis to learn wisdom.

In the New Testament of the Bible, in the book of James, more is said about wisdom. “The wisdom from above,” it says in chapter 3 and verse 17 (the Good News Bible) “is pure first of all; it is also peaceful, gentle and friendly; it is full of compassion and produces a harvest of good deeds; it is free from prejudice and hypocrisy.” How I need God’s wisdom every day of my life.

Our children need to learn to be wise early in their lives, too, so that their choices can be molded by good sense and God’s take of things. Sometimes, God’s wisdom surprises us as we consider something we may not have even thought of. As we and our children learn to wait before we make decisions then wisdom can be shown and then used.

Acting on what we know to be wise is another thing. So easily temptation can take us away from what is wise and right. How we need to memorize and meditate on God’s word to facilitate growing in wisdom. In 2 Timothy 3:15 (the New King James version of the Bible) the Apostle Paul writes to a young man called Timothy and says to him “…from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” That is one of the reasons we’ve included a Scripture memory verse in every one of Diamond Books!
