Short and Sweet!

,

What does that conjure up in your mind? My initial response is something to eat – a bit of liquorice; a strawberry; a green bean; a wine gum! Then, thinking some more, my mind goes to a cute child; a clever advertisement; or a cuddly toy.

To get to the point – we can like short and sweet articles to read, like this blog (with hopefully short and pithy lines of interest). I thought I would share some of the short and sweet words that have meant a lot to me from the Bible. Here are some of the short ones:-

“My times are in His hand.” (Psalm 31:15)

“If God is for me who can be against me.” (Romans 8:31)

“God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

“The Lord is my shepherd.” (Psalm 23:1)

These short phrases from the Bible have an added sweetness:-.

His banner over me was love.” (Song of Songs 2:4)

“Your word is like honey to my taste.” (Ezekiel 3:3 – Ezekiel referring to a scroll of God’s words)

“All the promises of God are yes and Amen.” (see 2 Corinthians 1:18-20)

“He is altogether lovely.” (Song of Songs 5:16)

It’s best of course to read all these in context but the short and sweet phrases are in themselves a treat!

May we treasure God’s word and allow our children to know all about it and read the best book in the world that is bought and read more than any other i.e.The Bible.. Alongside this, ‘The Creation Series’ can be used by children to amplify and illustrate the first 3 chapters of the book of Genesis (especially for reading to 3-4 year olds) where all the beginnings began and all the short and sweet verses of Scripture!

PS How about the shortest verse in the Bible ‘Jesus wept.’ (See John 11:35 to find out why and when.)
